I am so excited about the Mary Scott Huff event!

Here is a reminder of the event details:
Date: November 11, 2009
Time: 7-9pm
Location: Billy Frank Jr room at the Ecotrust building
721 NW 9th Ave
Portland, Oregon 97209

The Ecotrust Building is one of my favorite spots in Portland. It was the first LEED Gold certified historic renovation in the country. Much of the building uses reclaimed and recycled materials and the building is notable for its sustainable and energy efficient building techniques. The Ecotrust building is a really beautiful and unique space.

It is also in a really convenient location. The streetcar stop on Johnson is right in front of the Ecotrust building. If you take the bus or Max into downtown Portland, it is very easy to transfer to the streetcar lines. There is a very helpful trip planner on the Trimet website. Since our event is occurring on Veteran's day, metered street parking is free, and this part of the Pearl district is relatively easy to find parking.

Whenever I go to an event downtown, I like to make an evening of it. There are lots of delicious restaurants in the Pearl District and downtown. Downstairs in the Ecotrust building is a Hot Lips pizza parlor and Laughing Planet cafe. And there is a large lobby area with lots of open space and seating, a great place to knit in public!

There are also lots of crafty things in the neighborhood if you come early. At the Visage Eyewear Gallery, there is an exhibit of crocheted portraits and the Portland cityscape created by Jo Hamilton.

I always try to stop and see the current exhibits at the Museum of Contemporary Craft. There is a stunning spinning wheel made of hand-blown and soft-sculpted glass that is fully functional, created by local artist Andy Paiko.

And of course, I should mention that Powells bookstore is located just a few blocks away from the Ecotrust building on the same streetcar line. I think that I visit Powells every time that I'm downtown.

Mary Scott Huff has also been blogging about this event. She is bringing 160 (very heavy) books to her book signing!

I can't wait to see you all there!
