Knitting Community

I launched my Mitten Tutorial KAL last week and, after reading the posts, I realized that it is a perfect forum for any knitter who has been hesitant to join a KAL before.

Number One

The lesson and project is small and simple. It's all about learning as opposed to finishing a project. You can participate without knitting at all! Just follow the lessons, maybe write down a few notes and then chat with all of the members.

Number Two

I am thrilled to see that a couple of our most engaging members, like Cheryl and KnitterGirl39 have joined the group. Lots of encouragement and knowledge to share.

Number Three

We just started last week and the accompanying video was a simple review of mitten basics. You can join right now and not feel like you have to do a whole bunch of catching up.

No matter how busy you may be, think about joining my Mitten Lesson KAL. You can learn how to make mittens and how to enjoy the on-line companionship that a KAL provides.

Hope to see you there!

Today's lesson was very helpful. I need visuals when it comes to techniques and Kelly's are great. I hope I don't get a long strand of yarn between the "backwards e" cast on and the next knitted stitch. That has been a problem for me.

How much yarn will I need to finish both mittens? I'm knitting on #8 w/lt wt worsted (4.5 st/inch). Just want to make sure I've got enough.

I was just thinking...this tutorial for beginners probably isn't the place to talk about this but maybe you could do a separate post about it - I have made lots of mittens, but they have been mostly a plain, basic mittens. I do have some patterns with cables and such that I plan to try, but I look at all the beautiful and intricate patterns for fingerless mitts and think about making them with a full thumb and complete mitten tip instead of the fingerless finger parts. I wonder if you could do a video or a post about turning fingerless mitts patterns into full mittens. Just a suggestion...

Can someone please tell me what the blue and green latvian-looking mitten pattern is? I love it! And I want to make it (despite my lack of knowledge on stranding). Help please.

I've bought a set of harmony 6 in dpn's and some awesome WW yarn and I'm so excited to get started on my first pair. Thanks Kelley!

I'm preparing to knit a pair of mitts for my DGD, too. Which I will finish. Love to know that there is plenty of support. --Susan

Thank you so much for starting this KAL. I'm excited about getting started and it is really good to know (up front) that I don't have to finish it...it's the journey, not the destination (although I will try to complete a pair of gloves).
