Help for a Knitting Buddy?

This is the problem:

Thanksgiving dinner was at my friend Barbara's. (Actually, I have several friends named Barbara.) She has a knitting problem and asked my help. I sort of have an idea of how to solve it, but I promised Barb I would share her project with the best knitting minds in the world. Her non-k… Continue

Where There's a Will...

I'm knitting! Well, sort of. Some of you will remember that I had a cast put on my right hand to protect my thumb from injury while it recovers from its recent surgery. (Three weeks ago today, but who's counting?) I've been spinning up a storm since getting the cast on. Here's some finished yarn:

It's the c… Continue

Cast On, Part Deux

Cast on, yeah, but not for a new project! Today I got the cast on my right hand. We'll see how much I can do in a few days. Here's what it looked like last Tuesday, as I was getting ready for surgery. As usual, they had to pry my knitting from my busy hands. They even got my glasses first!

As with the first sur… Continue

Bwaaaaa-haaaa-haaa! We're going to get you!

Happy Halloween, everyone! Here are DH and I in our costumes...the scariest thing we could think of:

We won a prize for best costumes at the Halloween party: a bottle of Vampire Blood wine. Yum! We'll probably pull the cork tonight, while the little kiddos are trick-or-treating! Not shown in the photo are the c… Continue

Knitting, Quilting, Spinning, Injuries and Snow!

The spinning group is up again after a summer hiatus. We met yesterday. Here's Rita, one of the participants. I met her at the Alpaca Days a few weeks back:

Recognize Rita's bag? She did the alternate variation in the same colorway as mine, and she did the strap as written. She also spins and weaves. We h… Continue

New Knitters!!!

There's almost nothing better than meeting people who are just learning to knit! Well, except for maybe a KP order filled with yarn, books and new needles! I was invited to a neighbor's house for a "Stitch and Bitch" session Sunday night.

Here I am with one of the knitters. (I'm the older one!) I took my spinning… Continue

Spinning, Spiders and Other Things

I'm making progress on DH's Fair Isle sleeveless cardi! My needles are smoking...well sort of. I just have to finish the current motif, and I'll be able to start the neck and armholes. Here's what it looks like:

The steek will go where the funny vertical stripes are. I am not afraid of steeks anymore after m… Continue

Happy Birthday, Joanie!

This is an extra blog to share Joanie's birthday with all of you, especially everyone who has a birthday on October 8th!

This was my present to Joanie: enough of my hand-spun Coopworth to make a Landscape Shawl like mine, so she won't steal it! I also gave her one of those needle gauges that looks like a cross… Continue

Sweater Time!

Good thing I'm making progress on DH's Fair Isle Sleeveless Cardi:

It's the Fridarey Sleeveless Cardigan from The Art of Fair Isle Knitting by Ann Feitelson. The yarn is Jamieson and Smith's Shetland yarn in a fingering weight. Here's a close up:

Alpacas and Charlotte's Babies...

If you were watching the Alpaca Cam yesterday, you may have seen the alpacas greeting me as I arrived at the ranch.

I got my spinning set up and started work on the orange-rust hand-dyed alpaca I was working on the day before. The alpacas had visitors of all ages during the day.

PPoo- That's a good idea to just repeat something that I've already done... I hadn't really considered that. Plus I've only done seed st on one of the brown rows. I could do that. Then it would be easiest to finish the outside blocks with garter since I'm going back and forth anyway. :) I just looked at the Ducky Onesie link from the other post. That is so cute!! I may have to break down and get that book. It has been in my wish list for a long time.

Hello Peggy
How did your surgery go. Was it hand? Can you knitt yet? Was one of the pictures taken inside the restaurant with the caved bear in Park City. I visited 4 years ago on business. What a nice community-looks like multi national group,so many good restaurants.

Thank you for accepting my request. I heard you on the podcast and thought you sounded very friendly and knowledgeable. I haven' been very active in the knitting community because I wasn't really paying attention. Now that I've been made aware. Well stand back because I'm excited to get to know people now.

Aha! Now I've figured out how to answer!! I wanted to tell you that I heard you on the PodCast with Kelley. It was fun to listen to her interviews. I carry my IPod in the car-- much better than talk radio!!!

That's a good point about the gauge on the FI sleeveless cardi. The BSJ is just so fun to watch happen with so very little knitting, I think you'll enjoy it. It's nice to have on the needles to do when you don't want something complicated, too. I may always have one going, now!! I liked it so much! I'm doing a baby blanket now for my simple knitting, but I'm really switching it up and having fun with it. My first attempt was frogged because it wouldn't lay flat AT ALL! and I'm just using thrift store acrylic for washability. So, as long as it is flat, I'm doing it in this blanket. So far garter and seed stitch that is two rows of the same- is that called broken rib or something? Anyway, I'm liking it so far. It was nice to do while chatting and listening at knitting group tonight. :) And, yes, we should be friends! Thanks for thinking of it!

Oh, a teether would be funny!! DH was going to make one out of popsicle sticks just for the fun of it (not for the baby) but lo and behold- we couldn't find even one! I thought you were waiting until January for your BSJ!!?? Good that you can do some with the bum thumb, though. That's good to hear. :) -Peggy Sue

Thanks for your note. I understand the frustration of window shopping, and I can't claim to have much patience although it seems to be increasing as the years roll along. My imaginary "perfect" wheel is one that will grow with me. I know perfection doesn't exist [learned that after being married 35 years....snort...] so I'm aiming toward as versatile and handsome a wheel as I can find...much like when choosing a husband. Hopefully my wheel choice will work out as well as my marriage: not perfect but will grow with me;->

Thanks Peggy; I'm still shopping for a wheel and now I've run across a brand called Country Craftsman and trying to learn as much as I can about them. I've seen Detta's website and spoken with some CC spinners who all say good things about them. I most likely will try to find a second-hand wheel of whatever brand works well and appeals to my eye as suggested.

This is a photo of the one I'm thinking of buying:
