About Me:
I am a creative consultant for Knit Picks product development, and I help to choose yarn colors and design the multicolored yarns like Imagination, Stroll, and Felici.

My favorite kind of knitting is colorwork, and I love substituting colors to really make a colorwork project my own. Everyone I know seems to be having babies (including myself!), so cute little baby knits are frequently found on my needles as well.

Photo behind the scenes & a contest!

Now that our November catalog projects are online and catalogs are in the mail, I thought it would be fun to show you a few "behind the scenes" snapshots of our catalog shots. Often we have to put ourselves and our models in ridiculous looking situations to get that lovely and natural looking shot. To make things a little interesting, we've decided to make a game out of it. Can you guess what the product is we're shooting? (Hint: It's either a kit or a book project.)

Alice's autumn hat

When the weather turned chilly, I realized that Alice had outgrown all the hats she had as a newborn last winter. Knitting to the rescue! I'd had my eye on the Aviatrix Baby Hat pattern for a while, so that was an easy choice. Then I just had to go stash diving for the perfect yarn. I landed on… Continue

Winner of the HUB gift certificate!

Remember the Portland contest I posted a few weeks ago? Sorry about the delay in picking a winner--we had lots of great entries, and I got sick last week, so it was a double whammy. We had so many awesome ideas suggested that we ended up choosing the top 10 entries and then drawing a random one from those. The lucky winner is Gwyneth who posted the following suggestions:

1. The Armory Theater… Continue

Contest for Portland Metro knitters!

A lot of components go into creating great photos for our catalog and web site, and one important component is location. (It's not just true for real estate!) We like to get out of the studio as much as we can to capture the natural lighting and inspiring backdrops of the area in which we live. Since we're headquartered in Vancouver, WA, we do a lot of shooting in Portland, the gorge, Camas, and Vancouver. It really brings that "Pacific Northwest" feeling to our photos I think. Anyway, remember… Continue

Hi Melissa - I am looking at your blog page, and I see the Peapod sweater. Is this your own design? Do you sell your designs? Can I get the pattern for this adorable sweater? What sizes will the sweater fit? I love this! Hope to hear from you soon.

melissa,
How does one deal with the ends in colorwork? I tried to weave one though the back of the stitches as I do for my other projects and the other colors show through on the front. I assume this is not the
desired effect. I definitely need some serious help on this one.
Thanks.

Hi Melissa, I just wanted to say a big thank you for this Mystery KAL project. It has given me the inspiration I needed to design my girlfriends hat and scarf for Christmas this year. I only started knitting a year and a half ago, but I have been crocheting for many years. About 10 years ago I crocheted a hat and scarf for my girlfriend (who lives in NY) and when she came for a visit last year in November, she told me she still wore them every year. Then she saw a yarn in my stash that she adored, so I knit her a really simple hat and scarf from it and sent it to her for Christmas. Now this has become a tradition for us. She is here visiting right now and I asked her to pick 2 colors for her present this year - she picked brown and green, so I decided to use the same set of greens that I am using for the Mystery KAL along with either the Bittersweet or Bark for the brown and design a double knit scrollwork pattern for the scarf and carry the pattern on to the hat - which I think will be a Tam. I will share pics when it is complete. Thank you again for your inspiration!! Dusti
