I'm knitting my first mittens for a friend's little boys...here's to hoping they turn out :)

Women's size would allow for growth...that would be my suggestion--kids grow so fast! And, I don't know about your nephew, but I always like a little "wiggle room" -- no fun being cramped up in a snowball fight :)

I want to start the jack in the box mittens for my nephew who is 8. Should I make the women's size medium or a child's. Not sure which way to go but thinking women's. Would love a comment. Thanks.

I just ordered the book and am so excited about making a project from this book. Will start one as soon as the book arrives! Have wanted to make mittens/gloves ever since I started knitting 3 years ago -- this group was the motivation to get me going!

Welcome Sonya!

One of the things I like the most about this book is the "Index of Projects by Yarn Weight" in the back of the book.

Imagination is a sock weight, right? So according to the index there are 4 patterns in the book that would work - at least - depending on your gauge. Not mittens, though. The Blackthorn on page 25 is a great basic glove pattern perfect for Imagination - with or without the lacers! Same for Golden Bracelets on page 69 - just knit straight up without adding the color pattern.

I don't know about you, but my skin can't handle the itch factor of Brown Sheep Worsted (Lamb's Pride, right?). Take that into consideration, especially if your going to give the mittens/gloves as a gift.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I can't decide. I ordered the book and two hanks of Imagination because it looked so good. I just don't see a mitten pattern suited to the yarn. I have some Brown Sheep Worsted - just right for the mittens on page 84, but I just love the way the Imagination feels. Any suggestions?

I love them! The Welig gloves came out really well. I did them in Knit Picks Andean Silk in Cinnamon on size 4 dpns. Took just under two balls. The directions were easy to follow.
I am really happy with them!

Hi Purly Girl (What a great name!), I've got the book and as always is the case, too much choice, too little time! I think it's going to be the green pointed mittens with the celtic knot, or else the lace fingerless gloves. A
